The webhosting service for Romanian elementary and high-schools was launched.

The main objectives of this project are to:

• encourage the active presence of schools on the WEB
• transform the schools from WEB content consumer in WEB content provider
• create a community of schools that are active on the WEB
• encourage the collaboration of schools on WEB or by other Internet channels

Compared to a local solution, the benefits of the webhosting service offered by SEI educational portal are: fast access, availability and technical support. Compared to a comercial solution, the benefits of the webhosting service offered by SEI educational portal are: free of charge service and a subdomain from scoli.edu.ro or licee.edu.ro.

The webhosting solution is characterized by the following features:

• the total size of the site should be less than 20MB; in special cases, larger sites can be hosted upon request
• the service provides support for: php, mysql
• the school administrates the site, through an FTP account, which is provided on registration.
• the site is published on WEB under a specific name under the subdomains scoli.edu.ro or licee.edu.ro.
• if the school has its own domain, then this domain can be announced in Internet (through DNS), and the site of the school can be published under this name.

To register, the school should address (by surface mail or by fax) an official request to the Direcţia Generală Logistică, Administrativ şi Resurse Umane (DGLARU) from MEdC.
